Beauty Is Not Skin Deep (True Beauty Is Deeper Than The Skin)

Beauty is not skin deep, but most people are too caught up on outer appearances that they miss out on the true meaning of beauty.

Today while having some ice cream with a friend, she told me that someone once told her that she was cursed for having outer beauty. I disagree, but I do understand that some people let outer appearances get to their head. How is being born with an outer appearance that by society’s standards is considered beautiful a curse? It can be to an extent, but you have to be able to overcome society’s standards and know that your worth is far more than what others’ think based upon your looks.

If you’re “beautiful” by society’s standards, don’t let it get to your head and make you feel as though you are better than others. If you’re “ugly” by society’s standards, also don’t let it get to your head and make you feel as though you are any less than others.

If you think someone is “beautiful,” don’t assume they have no internal beauty because of it and vice versa. Beauty can only be known by observation of what others do.

Looks do not: spread kind acts and love, advance science and technology, provide food, water, and shelter, and much more. Only the internal being and strength of a person can do these things. Looks do not create and keep friendships. Only the kindness of hearts can do that.

If we were only our looks, this world would get nowhere. It would be like 7 billion diamonds with legs walking around the Earth. What real worth does a diamond have? What can a diamond do? A diamond can’t do a whole lot but sit there and look pretty. We sometimes go to jewelry stores to admire the precious jewels, but after we leave the store, we go about our day. The “beauty” makes no real impact on our life. It didn’t touch our heart and fill us up with love and joy.

Why didn’t the “beauty” of the diamond suddenly make life complete? Because the “beauty” was a façade; an illusion of beauty that was over time created and distributed to everyone’s’ minds. There are a million words that could be said about this topic, but the overall conclusion is that there is so much more to us and this life than pure looks.

How we make others feel, help those around us, and contribute to this world is truly beautiful and shows the beauty in one’s character. A good, loving character is more beautiful than any illusion of beauty placed on this Earth.

An example to leave you all with is the ocean. From land, we only see the surface of the water. We don’t know what lies below that surface unless we take the steps to break through the surface and explore the unknown below. This can relate to only seeing the surface or outer appearance of a person without knowing what lies beneath. There is so much beauty and wonder that lies hidden because we don’t take the time to discover the unknown.
